What was the inspiration behind this collection?
We created this capsule to spark a conversation based on meaningful themes in the Chanukah holiday. The Hebrew words are sculpted in English to prompt a dialogue. Like the Chanukah flames that are meant to be witnessed by others, we wanted someone to be able to look at the piece and immediately read the letters even without knowledge of Hebrew. We loved the idea of offering a “Shalom Necklace”, “Ahava Necklace”, and many more symbolic words that would act as a mantra or spark conversation.
Whether this Hebrew jewelry is a holiday gift, or something to wear yourself year round, the intention is that it inspires us to explore what that value or quality means to us today. What was your inspiration behind each specific word?
These words were chosen for their powerful meanings and universal appeal. Each holds ancient wisdom and yet a modern message that can guide us today. The collection includes Ahava (love), Emet (truth), Shalom (peace), Or (light), Nes (miracle) and Shefa (abundance).
Why is the word in English rather than Hebrew?
The intention was that the word could be read by someone who isn’t familiar with the Hebrew language. Perhaps someone would look at the hand sculpted gold wire and ask - Is that a word or an abstract symbol you are wearing? What is its meaning? What does it mean to you?
What is the meaning behind the single freshwater pearl?
The pearl is a universal motif of purity with its own miraculous evolution from a grain of sand. In this collection it also takes on the identity of a singular Chanukah flame, a bright light within the darkness. As you wear it, you are reminded of the power of one small light to illuminate an entire dark space.
